childhood memories

Hi everyone!
On our last English lesson we talked about our childhood memories.
Today I want to tell you about my favourite childhood cartoons!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All of us have our own favourites and I have several cartoons which I keep coming back to.

My Little Pony
I remember the joy when my father would say 'rental shop'? And I would run to put my shoes on and we would go there.
The shop was 10 minutes from my house and I remember a long narrow corridor which led to a kingdom of VHS tapes.
We rented a lot of cartoons but 'My Little Pony' was always on my list.
I would come back home and I'd put the tape in the VHS player and I'd watch <3

Krecik
This is a Czech cartoon about a mole and his adventures. When I was sick I watched a lot of episodes of this cartoon.
I liked when he made the 'ahoy' sound or when he laughed. I had always hoped that one day he would say something more,
but he never did.

Muminki
This was a cartoon about the Moomins and their life.
Włóczykij (Snufkin) was one of my favourite characters, and of course Mała Mi (Little My) because she had red hair :D
I liked Włóczykij, because he loved nature, silence and adventures just like me!

All the GIFs are from giphy application from facebook :)

What are your favourite childhood cartoons?
Let me know!

Board games

Hi everyone! Today I want to tell you about my favourite board games.

When I was young I played Monopoly and Scriba with my brother and I loved it!
When I was in junior high school I was a member of a board game club.
We met every Thursday and we would play for two hours or more. That was a phenomenal time :)

The Settlers of Catan
This was a game which I loved at first sight.
There's a beautiful board with wood, grain, clay, grassland and stone tiles.
You also have settlements, roads and cities which you must build with the acquired resources to collect points faster than other players :)

The Lords of Waterdeep
This is a game in which you have lots of colorful cubes and cards with quests and intrigues.
You must complete the quests faster than others, but the others can prevent it :D
You must be careful and alert.

Fluxx
This is a card game in which you have cards of Actions, Goals, Keepers and New Rules.
This game looks easy but it's not, because the cards can change the rules and every single rule card on the board applies.
If you want to win you must gather the Keeper cards specified by the Goal card currently on the board.
Every player can change the game's rules and the goal by playing their cards.

Hi everyone!
Today I want to tell you about 5 films:
'Chi-Raq', 'The Unknown Girl', 'Moana', 'The Edge of Seventeen' and 'Bleed for This'.

'Chi-Raq'
This is an American satirical musical drama film based on Aristophanes' Classical Greek comedy 'Lysistrata'

in which women  have decided not to sleep with their husbands as punishmentfor fighting in the Peloponnesian War.
In this film after the death of an innocent child the women  don't sleep with their husbands until they agree to lay down the arms. Famous actors like Jeniffer Hudson, Samuel L.Jackson and Steve Harris appeared in this film.

'The Unknown Girl'.
This is a Belgian-French drama film. Jenny is a doctor.
She is pretty and smart with a sense of mission and conscious of financial disparities.

But when the police finds the body of a young girl at a construction site near the clinic,
Jenny realizes that she is the cause of the girl's misery.
While teaching a trainee  the respect for working hours and mental health, she ignored the doorbell.

Now, feeling remorseful, she starts her own investigation, trying to discover the identity of the girl
and provide her with proper burial.

'Moana'
This is an American computer-animated musical fantasy adventure film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Moana Waialiki is a sea voyaging enthusiast and the only daughter of a chief in a long line of navigators.
When her island's fisherman can't catch any fish, she learns that the demigod Maui caused it by stealing

the heart of the goddess Te Fiti. The only way to heal the island is to persuade Maui to return Te Fiti's heart,
so Moana goes on an epic journey across the Pacific. The film is based on stories from Polynesian mythology.

If you ask me why you should go to this animation, I would only say these words: Lin-Manuel Miranda.
He wrote the music for this film. If you don't know this man you must listen to the recording of 'Hamilton'
and discover the treasure of the English language rhymes and a lot of other amazing things.

'The Edge of Seventeen'
It is about Nadine, an awkward high school junior whose all-star older brother Darian starts dating her best friend Krista. All at  once, Nadine feels more alone than ever, until the unexpected friendship of a thoughtful boy gives her hope that things might not be so terrible after all.

'Bleed for This'
This is a story of World Champion Boxer Vinny Pazienza. He had a near fatal car crash after which he couldn't walk. Despite this, he started training again and made one of sport's most incredible comebacks.

My three favourite photographers!

Hi everyone! Today I want to tell you about my three favourite photographers.
You know that I love taking photos so I have 'my' photographers, whose work I really love.
They all do wedding photography and I want to show you my favourite photo session
or rather wedding reportages of my three favourite photographers!

The first of them is Anita Suchocka.
When I was in junior high school I found a blog of a girl who called herself Aife.
That was love at first sight. I loved her writing. Her words were so magical and beautiful, full of feelings.
Later I saw her photography and the magic in her photos is incredible.
And later she started to make furniture, mirrors and jewelry. My rabbit (which I wear everyday) is one of her works.

Her work you can see here :)

Thanks to Aife I found a blog of a girl called Justyna Zduńczyk. She was taking photos at Aife's wedding.
Her photos are beautiful, because of breathtaking views and amazing portraits.
She can capture the most beautiful moments and show their magic.

Her work you can see here ;)

And finally, people whose photos I really, really love. The Kitcheners.
I don't remember how I found them, but their photographs are masterpieces.
Beautiful views, wonderful colors, magical framing.
They are from the UK but they often take photos in Iceland with mountain sheeps and with mountains of course.
Their work you can see here :)

my 3 favourite TV series :)

Hi everyone!

You know that I love films and TV series. Each week I have special time for a film or for one episode of a series.
Today I wanna tell you about my 3 favourite TV series!

Downton Abbey

This is a British-American historical period drama
This is a story about the life of a British aristocratic Crawley family and their servants in the early 20th century.
This is the time in which the greatest events in history take place, which has an effect on their lives and on the British social hierarchy. I love costume dramas, but what I love the most about this TV series is the beautiful British accent and that the action takes place in the beautiful Highclere Castle.
When I think about Downton Abbey, it reminds me of one short sketch with actors from this series a segment from
'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' in which the actors read their roles with an American accent <3

Empress Ki

This is a story about Gi Seungnyang, a woman who comes to power despite a low social class and later marries
the Emperor of Mongol Empire to become an empress of the Yuan dynasty.
This is a very complicated story with many plot twists and beautiful Korean outfits, actors and music.

Here is the most beautiful song from this series:

The Young Pope

This is a new HBO Italian-Spanish-French drama television series about Lenny Belardo, the first American Pope in history.
He adopts the name of Pius XIII and he has an extraordinary way of ruling and managing the church.
For me it's very important that the leading role is played by Jude Law. There are also very beautiful outfits in this series.

my 3 favourite Broadway musicals.

Hi everyone!
Today I want to tell you about my 3 favourite Broadway musicals.

You know that I love theater and music so I also love musicals.
My first time in the theater was when I was in primary school and my class went to Poznań to see 'Fiddler on the Roof'.
I fell in love and later I was going to the theater with my parents and friends regularly.

A few years later I heard about Broadway for the first time and about fantastic performances which take place there.

That was love at first sight and... hearing!
I was fascinated by the costumes, scenography, orchestra, music and the actors' talent.
I have a lot of favourite Broadway musicals but today I'll tell you about only 3 of them.

SHREK
We all know the story of Shrek, especially from the film by DreamWorks.
The musical is based on the film and the book.
Did you know that Shrek's adventures were first published as a book?
It was a picture book written by William Steig who is an American cartoonist.
This musical was nominated:
- in 8 categories for a Tony Award in 2009, but it only won in one category
- in 12 categories for a Drama Desk Award in 2009, but it won in 3 categories
- in 4 categories for a Laurence Olivier Award in 2012, but it only won in one category

RENT
Rent is a rock musical based on Giacomo Puccini's opera La Boheme.
This is a story about a group of young artists struggling to survive under the shadow of AIDS/HIV.
This musical was nominated:
- in 10 categories for a Tony Award in 1996, but it won half of all nominations
- in 10 categories for a Drama Desk Award in 1996, but it won in 6 categories
- for a Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1996, which it won
- in 2 categories for a Theatre World Award, which it won
- in 3 categories for a Laurence Olivier Award, but it didn't win any

Hamilton
Now... THE BEST MUSICAL the world has ever seen.
Hamilton is an American Musical about the life of Alexander Hamilton, one of America's Founding Fathers.
It was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda who is a genius and a very gifted man.
This musical is inspired by the biography of Alexander Hamilton written by historian Ron Chernow.
But what makes this musical unique?
This is a hip-hop/rap musical and it's a treasury of rhymes, history and music skills.
This musical was nominated many times for various awards, so I'll just summarise:
it was nominated 72 times for 19 prestigious awards and it won 56 of them!

4 upcoming movies

Hi everyone!
Today I want to tell you about 4 upcoming movies that I just can't wait for.

You know that I love films, especially in cinema. This month I saw 'Doctor Strange' with Benedict Cumberbatch <3
and 'Inferno' with Tom Hanks. I love those actors so I had to see those films! But there are a few movies which I simply have to see.

The first is 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'.
As a fan of Harry Potter and Eddie Redmayne I have to see that.
This is a story about Newt Scamander in New York's secret community of witches.
He is a wizard and he lost some magical animals in London and he must find and save them!

The second is 'Vaiana', or rather 'Moana'!
This is a story about a young girl who uses her navigational talents to set sail for a fabled island.
I love animations but I want to see this film only because Lin-Manuel Miranda writes music for it!

The third is 'SING'!
I saw an announcement of this film a few months ago and I said to my boyfriend: 'WE MUST GO!'
This is a story about a koala bear who wants to restore his theater to its former glory,
so he organizes the world's greatest singing competition.

The fourth is 'Powidoki'.
This is an Andrzej Wajda's film about Władysław Strzemiński, a Polish avant-garde artist.
And I want to go see this film because of Bogusław Linda. I love this actor and I'm very curious of his new look.

Halloween or Holy Wins?

Hi everyone!
A few days ago was Halloween - did you celebrate it?
I never celebrated Halloween because I'm catholic and I don't like this holiday.
I don't like ghosts and other deathly creatures. I do like a pumpkin... if it's in a soup, pies, cakes and other goodies :D

When Halloween is coming I turn down the lights, I close the door and I pretend that no one is at home.
Then all the cookies (that my mother bought for the children) are mine :D
I also turn on YouTube and I watch all the 'I told my kids I ate all their Halloween candies' films. They're sad and funny at the same time. I love this one especially.

But today I want to tell you about 'Holy wins'. Do you know what that is?
It's an event created by the Catholic Church, that is the opposite of Halloween.
Children dress up as the saints or as their patrons and they have a saints' ball in their schools and kindergartens.
They also go on a small march around the city. It's a really funny feeling when you see small Mother Teresa, John Paul II and other saints on the streets. In schools there are also children that do not come from catholic families, and they dress up as famous people, like for example Albert Einstein.

What do you think about 'Holy wins'?

At the end I present to you my favorite meme about Halloween

James Corden

Hi everyone! Today I want to tell you about James Corden. Do you know this man?
He is an English actor, producer, comedian, writer and television host.
In 2012 he won the Tony Award for Best Actor and a lot of other prestigious awards.
This year he was hosting the 70th Annual Tony Awards and he made something amazing!
See for yourself!

You may know him from films/series like The Three Musketeers (2011 version),
Gulliver's Travels, Into the Woods, Doctor Who and Fat Friends.

If you don't know him from films maybe you know his late-night television show "THE LATE LATE SHOW with James Corden".
Today I want to tell you about one of the segments from this show - Carpool Karaoke.
Carpool Karaoke is a segment in which James invites mainly popular singers (but not only) to his car and he sings their songs with them. James is not an ordinary actor - he played in National Theatre and on West End and Broadway so he sings very well and sometimes you can see surprise on the stars' faces :) He also talks with them, does challenges etc.

I watch this show regularly and I love Carpool Karaoke. I always have a big smile on my face when I watch it :)
I have 3 favourite episodes of Carpool Karaoke. First is with Lin-Manuel Miranda and several actors who play on Broadway.
Do you know Lin-Manuel Miranda?
-----> Yes?  High five!
-----> No?  Immediately go on Youtube and listen to "Hamilton", but be sure to prepare food and drinks,
because it won't let you go away from your computer.  Is that right, Ola? :D
Okay, so first Carpool Karaoke with Lin and others!

My second favourite episode is with... First Lady Michelle Obama! Did you know that she loves Beyoncé and she can sing?
She is very lovely in this episode, take a look!

My third favourite episode is with Adele, but not because of Adele, but because of James. You must see Adele's face in 1:30 :)
He is sooo talented and I hope that I'll get to see him in theater one day :)

The Voice of....

They are totally amazing! I love this performance ever since I've heard it.

These are my favourite songs of The Voice! And you? Do you watch The Voice? Which performances did you like the most?

Welcome back!

Hello! Welcome back! The autumn is here!
I like this season very much because I was born in October :)  and 7 days ago I turned 20!
Oh no! I want my 18 back! But today I'm not going to tell you about my birthday etc.
Today I want to tell you about films that got my 10/10 on Filmweb!
Do you have an account on Filmweb?
It's a place where you can rate films, directors and actors.
I've rated 132 films and 4 TV series since I had my Filmweb account (29.08.2015).

During holidays I watched 72 films and... 6 seasons of Sex and the City!
I think that you know this series.
Below you can see which grades I give the most and which the least.

Most often I give seven points, which means 'good'.
I gave 1, 3 and 10 only in several cases!
1 only in the case of 'Lure' (Córki dancingu),
3 only in the case of Lady in the Van,
despite the fact that Maggie Smith is my favourite actress.
10 means a masterpiece! I gave this note only to 3 films.

I. THE HELP

This film is based on the book of the same title. Young lady writes a book about the African American maids,
about their history and their points of view on the white families for which they work.

II. THE KING'S SPEECH

This is a story about George VI (King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland)
and about his struggle with stuttering.

III. WHIPLASH

This film is about a young drummer and his teacher who will stop at nothing to bring out the talent of his students.

Below I give you lists of my 'very good' and 'sensational' films. Enjoy!

POSTMODERN JUKEBOX!

Recently I was at a PMJ concert. It was an incredible show!
I had hoped that my favourite singer – LaVance Colley - will be there in Warsaw, and YES! He was there!
The concert started at 7 p.m. in the „Stodoła” club, the concert hall was filled to the brim.
On the PMJ tour in Poland were LaVance Colley, Sara Palooza, Aubrey Logan, Von Smith, Cristina Gatti,
the band and the incredible Sarah Reich! She is a tap dance instructor! She is absolutely wonderful and admirable.
She and the percussionist engaged in a battle!

The performers are all close friends and it's visible to the naked eye. They said that Poland is beautiful and that they love pierogies! When they bantered with each other, LaVance said „Sara, tell us what you ate yesterday in Kraków”, and what did Sara say? „Twenty-five pierogies!” During one of the songs Sara came on stage with a scarf in the colors of Poland! That was so nice :) It was the best concert in my live!

"Żelka"

Yesterday my friend - Amadeusz - came back from Lublin juggling convention - ŻELKA.
It is held every year in Lublin around may. This year it was completely amazing.
He has met a lot of his friends, juggled with them and they've had great time being together. This year Wes Peden came to the convention to give some workshops
and make his show volcano vs palm-tree.
At the beginning Amadeusz couldn't believe his eyes when he saw him entering the gym.
He means Wes was ranked as the best juggler in the world for 7 years
in a row!!! For Amadeusz it felt like the world had stopped for few seconds.
He spent like 30 minutes sitting and watching him juggling.
Then he decided to start juggle and after some time Wes came to his.
Amadeusz was like " WHATT??!?" he gave him some advices about his technique
and they talked for about 20 minutes.
Wes show him few of his new tricks and then they took a photo together!
Amadeusz has waited for that time since he started juggling
and his dream finally come through.
He wouldn't think that such a celebrity (in jugglers society) as Wes could easily so nice and talkative! Amadeusz
was so hyped that he finished my training around 5 am!

Postmodern Jukebox!

I was listening to music on YouTube one day and I stumbled upon the Postmodern Jukebox channel.
I fell in love at first sight. PMJ is a band that reworks popular music into different genres, especially swing and jazz.
The band has covered a lot of artists who sing and create different styles of music, including Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga,
Gwen Stefani, Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Ella Fitzgerald, The Jackson 5, Snoop Dogg, Madonna and a lot of others.
The leader of PMJ is Scott Bradlee, who is a pianist, musician and arranger. At the beginning the band was small,
there were 4 people, because he created music with his close friends from college. But later when they gained popularity
Scott started inviting other musicians and singers to collaborate. Since their beginnings they collaborated with 70 musicians.
Today PMJ is well-known all over the world and has nearly two million subscribers on YouTube.
Next weekend I'm going to Warsaw to attend their live concert! I'm so excited and I can't wait!
I encourage you to listen to my five favorite songs performed by them, links below :)

No. 1
3.00 - 3.20 I love this guy!

MISCAST!

Do you know what a miscast is?
Miscast - to give a part in a play or film to an actor who is not suitable for it (Macmillan)
This is the formal definition of miscast. But Manhattan Class Company made something amazing!
MCC Theather is an Off-Broadway theater company that cooperates with young actors and singers.
They sing well-known songs, but the men sing women's parts and the women sing men's parts.
It's very funny, but also very difficult. Not only do they sing, but they also play and dance on the stage.
You simply must listen to some songs and their "covers" made by MCC Theather!

First song is from the musical "RENT".
And the second song is from "Hamilton", which I think is the best musical ever!

They sing out of tune but who cares!

My juggling friend

Last weekend I visited my hometown. Weather was great so I decided to meet my juggling friend Amadeusz (Amek).
He juggle for over five years. Through that time I was watching him getting better and better in juggling.
When we were talking I realized I don't know who inspired him and make him want to improve all this time.
So I asked him to give me the list of the best 5 jugglers in his opinion.

5. Łukasz Uczkiewicz - he juggles for about 6 years. His last 3 videos changed almost every juggler's point of view.
He's like the batman. Give him enough of prep time and he will do every trick.

4. Ofek Snir - sixteen years old juggler from Israel broke the world's 7 ball juggling record.. in the opinion of most jugglers
he's the best technical ball juggler. In his videos we can clearly see the liters of sweat he pours out at training.
The fact he's 16 makes his work even harder than Amek do now.

3. Haarvard Vatland Hvidsten -every time he releases a new video he comes up with a new concept. His head is full of ideas and his hands full of balls. He got one of the prettiest patterns on the world. Amadeusz can't describe how muchhe do love his juggling.. The only one problem Amek got with this guy is the fact that he has never met him.

2. Ameron Rosvall- Swedish juggler that can hold everything on his chin, nose or forehead. He got so good with balance that he can keep one stick on his feet and the second on his chin at the same time. When you add his club tricks to it you can be prepared for your mind to be blown. He perfected the tricks that most of the world can just imagine of.

1. Wes Peden- straight outta Stockholm juggler that started juggling revolution. His tricks, ideas, videos and performances are always one step ahead of the rest jugglers. He was the top juggler for over 7 years in Luke Burrage's top 40 jugglers of the world.  He's super good, super cool and always wants to get better, no matter how good he is. Wes motivates my friend the most.  That's why he placed him on the top of his list!

Lady Gaga

Do you know Lady Gaga? Of course you do, who doesn't! She is an American singer, songwriter and actress.
We all remember her songs like "Poker Face", "Just Dance" and "Bad Romance". She was an idol when we were
in lower secondary school. I never liked Lady Gaga because I didn't like her style of music and her disguises.
I knew that she had a good voice but she didn't fully use it. Finally Tony Bennett offered her cooperation.
He is an American singer of traditional pop standards and jazz. And then I saw a real Lady Gaga.
She is so beautiful and talented! She has an amazing voice and she creates music like Tony. LOOK!

Kazakhstan 3 - photos!

Now I'll show you some photos from Astana and other places in Kazakhstan  :)

This is a panorama of Kazakhstan. You can see how many tall buildings there are.
They are placed in a line, because the president wants to have good overview of his city.

This is a small office building in Astana. Trust me, it's small.

Do you remember a cartoon called "THE JETSONS"? They lived in a house just like this one!

Kazakhstan has a lot of monuments. They are everywhere.
Of course they are big and flawless.

In the night these buildings are illuminated. It is an incredible view.
They have money for all those illuminations, but they don't have them for poor people.

One hour drive from Astana, this country starts to look completely different.

Kazakhstan 2

So last time I promised that I'll write more about Kazakhstan and life on the grassland.
I've decided to divide this topic into a few parts.
When I went to Kazakhstan I was very stressed, because I knew little of this country and I have never been there before.
For me Kazakhstan was always this country with poverty, kolkhozes, grasslands and repatriated people. But Kazakhstan is a very rich country, because it has a lot of natural resources like hard coal, oil, natural gas and metals. This country cultivates cereals and crops. Astana – the capital of Kazakhstan – is a very specific city, because there is everything there! There are churches, mosques, synagogues, orthodox churches, pyramids, monuments, modern arts and even a zoo with a white tiger, a nearly extinct species! Okay, maybe there isn't everything there – in Astana animals do not exist outside of the zoo.
I've been a few times in this city and I saw ONE dog! One dog at 10 pm on the outskirts of the city!
There aren't any mosquitos, flies or other insects there because the city is sprayed with insecticides.

If you want to eat dried fruits, go to Astana! If you want to eat the best candies ever, go to Astana! If you want... anything, really,
go to Astana! But if you want to see the real Kazakhstan, you need to go on the grassland, to the people who are living there.
One hour drive from Astana and I saw fewer beautiful buildings and more insects and animals. I saw poverty, more and more with each kilometre. I saw poorer houses and roads, I saw emptiness. I saw the real Kazakhstan and then I fell in love with this country.

When I went to the countryside I saw colourful houses, a lot of animals like chickens, ducks, gooses and cows. COWS everywhere!
In this country every morning cows are going on the grassland with a... cowherd? What a funny word! A man who is like a shepherd but he has cows! And at 6 pm he sees the cows out and the cows come back to their houses all by themselves!
They know which house is theirs and they go there. I know that seems impossible but it's real!

The Kazakh food is amazing, because everything is natural.
People are selling watermelons, melons and other citruses on the road, much like strawberries are sold in Poland.
And their taste is weird! People are kind and they bring a lot of food for volunteers from their native country.
One day they brought us 15 kilos of tomatoes and a few litres of milk and cream. It means a lot to these people that young people from Poland come to 'their' country to help and to spend time with their grandchildren.
The Polish spirit is still alive there, these people remember of their homeland.
They talk in Polish and sing Polish patriotic songs. They are still waiting to return home.

In the next posts I'll show you some photos!

Kazakhstan

Hi, my name is Alice and this is my first blog in English.
I'm very upset when I talk or write in this language, so this is a challenge for me. So let's start!

In summer I was in Kazakhstan and today I want to tell you about the capital of Kazakhstan. Astana has been
the capital of Kazakhstan for 19 years. It's the Las Vegas on the grassland, because it has a lot of amazing buildings
and modern architecture with colorful lights. Everything is shiny in this city. It looks like Polish cities during Christmas,
except it does so all through the year. The skyscrapers are covered in giant screens.
The symbol of this city is Bayterek. Bayterek is a monument and observation tower.
It was designed by an English architect. It has been reported that the president of Kazakhstan once wanted to build
a giant dome over the capital in order to always keep it sunny at a moderate 24 degrees Celsius.
